On the road (more accurately path) to Hill 446. Capt Keith L. Ware, Sidney's company commander, probably had this view through his
binoculars. CPT Ware later won the Medal of Honor after charging 4 machine gun nests in France. As a Major General, his helicopter was shot down in Vietnam,
making him the highest ranking officer killed in action in the Vietnam War. |
 |
Hill 330 southeast of hill 446. Sidney and fellow B Company member Audie L. Murphy, who would become most decorated soldier in WWII, later a movie actor
and veterans' advocate, looked to their right and saw the 2nd BN occupying this hill and Statigliano beyond. |

The road at the base of Hill 446. Sidney likely spent his last night here. We drove as far as we could until we reached a vehicle barrier. Then our
"4 man patrol" crawled under the fence and began
climbing. |

Climbing Hill 446. Looking south towards Mt. San Angelo. Coach Miller is closest, Rob is "tail end Charley." |
 |
Looking North. Tony Cisneros is "on point." |
