The eastern end of Green Beach. Beyond it, Licata |

Green Beach looking west towards Agrigento. Workmen are preparing the beach for the summer tourist season. Most of the U.S. landing beaches are now occupied by summer vacation homes. |

Looking northeast from Green Beach toward Monte Sole. The 2/15th INF moved over Monte Sole and
attacked Licata from the west. The first and third battalions landed to the east of Licata and attacked the port
from the east and north. |

Studying the invasion map. Cousin Sidney Heistein and Company B landed on Yellow Beach east of Licata and later attacked northward capturing Campobello and Canicatti. (The second arrow from the left.) They moved rapidly, soon capturing Corleone, birthplace
of the Godfather. On 22 July, they entered Palermo.

Downtown Licata, the focal point of the 3rd Division landing. The town hosted large caliber railway guns which harassed the landing troops
until the guns were silenced. |

Licata street scene. Our tour group spent our time here doing exactly what U.S. troops did 70 years ago - sightseeing and looking for a place to buy a good lunch. |
